I just heard tonight at the Hampton Supertrack that Dennis Dayrit passed away Sunday. He died from a sever asthma attack. He was only 33 years old. For those of you who didn't know Dennis, he started racing again last year after a 18 year lay off. He raced last year in the 30-34 cruiser class and won the VA #1 plate. Back in the day he was #5 in the world. I know a few of you guys knew and raced him. I just thought I would share the sad news. He will surely be missed. [Frown]

OMG!!!!! No way!!!! Have not seen him at all this year at the races. Someone told me had been sick. But dead from an asthma attack? Dennis was a friend way back in the day & it was cool to see him back at the track again last year & rekindle the friendship. He was a great guy, always smiling & he was a hell of a good bmxer, gave it his all everytime he was on the track. I am proud to have called him a friend. He will definately be missed. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. My son and I race, and my son has asthma. We have to watch him really close during the hot weather and during the winter days. My thought and prayers go out to his family.

OMG, Dennis was a member of Vintage and was actually the World Champion in Whistler back in the mid-80's not number 5. I have the video of his race and interview after the race and also attended the race. Life is short ya know? I really don't know what to say. I can mentally picture him throwing has arm in the air he was the smallest of the group that crossed the line and was a not expected to win the big one in Whistler.

RIP Dennis. I'm truly in shock as we have talked a bit since he had gotten back in the sport.

Can someone find out where to send condolences (spelling) to for me?

WOW! Sorry to hear of the loss. I met Dennis last year at the Hampton regional. Dennis had a balls to the wall attitude about racing. Any further info on where to send condolences would be appreciated.

I would see Dennis every year or so since he stopped racing bmx in the 80's to concentrate on his high school wrestling. He would come to the track sometimes and we would chat about the old times. I just got reacquainted with Dennis last year when he decided to start racing again. "Little Dennis" as I called him back when he raced in the 80's was always admired by me for his great desire to win. I loved watching him race back in the day and loved driving up to northern Virginia to ride with him and the guys at the Lake Fairfax track. I still remember a time when he passed me in a car on the interstate doing about 65 with his entire body, above the waist, out of the passenger window yelling "hey what's up?".. That guys a nut case I thought!
He loved surfing and actually got me to go out and ride trails again last year. We shared a room when we raced out of town and I loved his attitude towards life. He was always fun to be around. He has a beautiful little girl which I joked with him that she had to take after her mother. Most of all he was and always will be my friend. Dennis you are and will be missed buddy!

This was the Obituary printed in the paper on Wednesday:

I am unbelieveably sad. Can't even believe it. I used to race Dennis at Lake Fairfax BMX and all over VA in 1985 and 86. My breath is taken away. Talked to him some last year after I noticed him on this site. James Ayres will want to know too. Seems like only yesterday he was riding his black chrome Sting wearing a Rockville BMX jersey. RIP -
